Discipleship: Creative mentoring

Most missionaries are people persons. They love to develop relationships with people that lead to opportunities to share the gospel with the unsaved and to aid in the edification of other Christians.

Pre-field ministry leads to lots and lots of opportunities to be with people, but generally our time with any one individual is brief. Often it seems that just when a relationship is starting, it’s time to move cities or even states in pursuit of that elusive 100% support.

So what’s a missionary to do?  The ever-changing nature of the deputation schedule makes regular discipleship a challenge, but what a privilege we have to be living during the technological age. Both e-mail and skype provide ways to continue relationships. Electronic fellowship and dscipleship is far from ideal, but we rejoice that the Lord is providing opportunities for both via technology.
